Dear F5K Writer:Thank you for writing for me! As always, I want to clear up that I will love whatever you write for me and that most importantly, you should have fun writing what you're comfortable with writing! By all means, self-indulge as much as you want!
With that said, I don't have any straight-up triggers/DNWs to avoid, though I do have a list of general Likes and Eh's. But if you have this amazing idea and it happens to be on my Eh list, I'd rather you write your amazing idea and have fun doing so!
YES GOOD- FOR ALL FANDOMS (unless my sign-up has specifications included!): Do not have to include all characters! Totally up for OCs or other characters who were not nominated being brought in! Also up for ships with OCs/other characters not listed!
- Gen/Het/Slash/Femslash/Polyshipping (more than 2 in a ship) all OK! Otherwise queer relationships (queer-platonic, asexual, demisexual, etc.) also OK! See each fandom for specific details!
- OK with any rating!
- Canon Divergence/AUs/Crossovers OK! Some of my favorites fic types:
- Alternate History AUs
- Groundhog Day loop AU
- Casefic/Procedural
- His Dark Materials AU, aka Dæmon AU
- Fairytale AUs / Creature AUs
- Now for something different: Inception AU
- Noir/Neo-noir
- Magical Realism and/or Surrealism
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane
- Fairytale Themes
- Immortality (esp. in context of examining immortal characters in relation to the mortal world around them)
- I love Darkfic! Angst is lovely! And anything goes, unless it appears in my 'eh' list, though even then, it depends.
- Gothic Horror / Psychological Horror
- WORLD-BUILDING
- Experimental Writing (I have an appreciation for well-done 2nd-person POV, very stylized writing, concept pieces, unconventional storytelling and/or methods such as nonlinear or nested narration, etc.)
- Tech/Systems/Explanations of how shit works (by all means, if you study or are interested in a specific subject and incorporate it into your fic, please gush as much as you want about it!)
- Dysfunctional Relationships that are simultaneously so one-of-a-kind that, even though they can't stand being around each other all the time, they still come back together like magnets because no one else makes them feel this way. I especially love dysfunctional relationships that are probably on-again/off-again for a long while, before they realize that this is something truly special and they really try to compromise and thus become better people while learning how to make this relationship work. Maybe it doesn't work the first time they try this. Maybe it doesn't even work the second time. Maybe they even give up for a while, but they're inexplicably drawn back together because there is something so good at the core of their being together that none of them could ever forget it, even after so long.
- The reason I like dysfunctional relationships? Character dynamics that are passionate, a bit belligerent and volatile, yet also feels so good for everyone involved. If this goes over into borderline or even straight-up abusive, I can be OK with that so long as all sides are expressed as being on relatively equal power levels.
- Slow Burn Relationships / Slow Build Plot
- I've also got that hardcore Loyalty kink. See also: a relationship between equals where power is given over willingly and with full knowledge of what it means, and both sides understand it and trust one another enough to let that power go. For me, power dynamics are lovely and amazing, but the real part that gets to me is one person letting the other do something to them or have power over them, knowing full well that they don't have to give it over, but giving it over anyway.
KINDA EH(N.B.: None of these are hard DNWs! If you find that something on this list just works in your piece, go for it! I have a fairly high tolerance for most everything and have read/watched things that I normally do not like and ended up enjoying quite a lot before. Please don't limit your creativity for the sake of this list!)- Teeth-rotting sappiness/unrealistic situations you'd find in romantic comedy. A little fluff is fine, but I'm not a huge fan of schmoop that is overtly there for the sake of being cute.
- There is a time and a place for coffeeshop AUs, but it is not now or here. Maybe they'll make a comeback in a big way for me in the future. But the future is not now. Same for high school AUs. Now adding Soulmate AUs to this list of things I am currently tired of.
- Not fond of pregnancy (including mpreg) or kidfic (at least not stories about characters who do not already have kids, blood or found, finding themselves the guardians/parents of some) or the idea that a family should follow a certain traditional template in order to be 'complete' or 'fulfilling'
- Certain aspects/variations of the A/B/O trope: One-sided and/or absolute dynamics (one owns the other, but not the other way around; one calls the shots always, the other is compelled to obey always; alphas are always more aggressive and powerful, while omegas are submissive and delicate; etc.), your second 'gender' indicates secondary 'gender' roles (fuck gender roles in general), your second 'gender' indicates your social status, straining the constraints of dub-con until it might as well be straight-up non-con except with gaslighting, etc.
- Gaslighting that doesn't get addressed as being awful at some point, and/or that persists with the result that the one(s) being gaslighted accept this altered view for the foreseeable future.
- (ex: Stockholm Syndrome is OK. I have read some seriously amazing fics that feature Stockholm Syndrome. Some of them ended with the victim accepting it at the end and never breaking free, which is OK for a what-if exploration of how far you can push a character while still maintaining characterization, which can be such a great way to expand on a character. I love this kind of work! But I've also read a long!fic whose entire premise was about one character gaslighting the other and the 'player' just kept getting their way all the time and the ending just played it straight through to the end. This felt less like a character study or even a story and more just being awful for the sake of being awful without any depth.)
- Unequal relationships that are expressed as desirable as a general theme. On the other hand, if a relationship only seems unequal to others, but actually balances out and works between the characters involved, that's actually my jam. (ex: consensual Dom/sub relationships)
.
Now my prompts:
Thunderbolt Fantasy
Not going to specify Additional Tags because I'd be up for anything you'd like to write, but my big things for TBF are World-building, Casefic (Mystery/Procedural), Canon-Style Plot (along the same lines as Casefic). If you want to incorporate or write anything else from the tags, go for it! This fandom is so small, I'll take just about anything!
1) Any/All characters OK! Any shipping is also OK, including polyships (OT3 or OTV, all good)! Shipping outside of this set of characters also OK, including past ships or y'know, deceased ships. Any rating also OK!
2) I've seen S1, Sword of Life and Death, S2. Fic from any point in the timeline is OK! I've also read the manga and I have my issues with it, but if you want to incorporate aspects from there, also OK!
Some prompts to get you going, but if you've got something in mind already, feel free to drop these:
- I know the new movie will go into detail about Lang's backstory, which throws out a lot of headcanons, but <em>the movie isn't out yet</em>. For that matter, we don't know too much about the other characters' backstories either. I'm absolutely up for references to headcanons about their pasts or even straight-up origin stories for them.
- I could read 5k of the three-man crew + one instrument and i'd probably read way more, too. They're such interesting characters on their own, but when they have to coexist and - god-forbid - <em>cooperate</em> with one another, dynamics get really interesting.
- Suddenly, out of the blue: 1930s-50s Shanghai AU, with full incorporation of WWI/II as a historical stand-in (or alternate-history) for the War of Fading Dusk. I am so up for magical alternate-history being thrown into this.
- Quick, before the movie destroys all headcanons: how in the world did Lingya meet Lang? Is Lingya an enchanted artifact, the say Lin's pipe is or like Seven Blasphemous Deaths? Is he some being that was sealed into a pipa/lute?
Puella Magi Madoka MagicaPlease see Yuletide letter for additional specific prompts and likes/dislikes! (Will be updated up until a week after assignments get posted! If it goes past that time, please write whatever you'd like, since you can assume I've failed to update in a timely manner!!!)
1) All characters OK! Any shipping (including the groups tagged, as well other ships within main 5 or hinted at in canon) is also OK, including polyships (OT3 or OTV, all good)! Shipping outside of this set of characters also OK, including past ships or deceased ships. Any rating also OK!
2) I've seen the main series, as well as the movie trilogy. Rebellion killed a piece of my soul.
Some prompts to get you going (but if you have an idea, go for it!):
- Rebellion absolutely ruined my life for a few days after I watched it. But it also appealed to my inner yearning for discord and suffering. So here are some ideas. Madoka, being a goddess, has amnesia in Homura's world, but Madoka will also one day break through that barrier. Does anyone else's memories break through the barrier? What happens as time passes in Homura's universe? When Madoka finally breaks through the barrier, has Homura created a life for her that Madoka would be loath to throw away in order to reinstate her original new-world-order?
- But also, feel free to give me Madoka and Homura being the cute girlfriends that canon robbed from us.
- OK, but because I'm terrible: they get to be cute girlfriends and they continue onward with their cute magical-girl crew. And Kyubey's curse hits one of them inevitably. Someone has to turn into a witch.
- Fix-it option: Mami doesn't die in Ep 3. We get more of that animosity between Mami and Homura. But also, Mami gets to spend more time trying her best to take care of the new magical girls, but her Stepford Smile begins to crack, just as it cracked in that glimpse we had from one of Homura's past timelines. How does the fall-out go?
Onmyoji
Please see Yuletide letter for additional specific prompts and likes/dislikes! (Will be updated up until a week after assignments get posted! If it goes past that time, please write whatever you'd like, since you can assume I've failed to update in a timely manner!!!)
1) Any/All characters OK! Any ships (including polyships, OT3, OTV, etc.) OK, though with the characters nominated, I was leaning towards Yorimitsu/Onikiri and Susabi/Ren, but you're free to mix n' match. Also, ships with characters outside the mentioned are also good. Gen is obviously also OK! Also, specific to this fandom... any tier of consent, if you're going for that, is OK. By which I mean, non-con/dub-con/any degree of unhealthy/uneven relationship is OK.
2) Please feel free to use any/all available canon from the game, including the character bios, main storyline, side storylines, and memories.
Some prompts to get you started (but if you have ideas, go for it!):
- Yorimitsu and Onikiri have an incredibly unhealthy and unbalanced relationship. I, being me, would love more emotional detail about Onikiri's returned memories, the turmoil he must have felt. Yorimitsu had seemed to create worth in Onikiri's existance, had made him believe in his purpose presumably. To find out that all of that was just a control scheme and to then find out that Onikiri had always been simply a killer: it must have felt like betrayal and devastation in one blow. I wanted more of that from the story. I wanted more out of their final confrontation, so you have a take on that, I welcome it!!
- Hate them or love them, Redemption Arcs are incredibly interesting because character development is designed to be interesting. I love an Atoner character and seeing what healing (or destruction) happens in the aftermath of tragedy.
- As my YES GOOD list says, I love immortal characters. Something about the passing of time, the fact that long-lived characters get so many resources to improve themselves and figure out how the world runs, but ending up surprised by how GOOD things can still happen (or, y'know, BAD AND WORSE THINGS) - it's so good to unpack all that. All that ennui is kind of calming for me, actually.
- So now in the case of Onmyoji, there are a bunch of spirits who live a very long time and have at their disposal a great amount of power and/or resources. The world changes around them and they are forced to adapt. Character studies and studies of character relationships (whether to each other or to the world or to nature, etc.) would be awesome!
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Please see Yuletide letter for additional specific prompts and likes/dislikes! (Will be updated up until a week after assignments get posted! If it goes past that time, please write whatever you'd like, since you can assume I've failed to update in a timely manner!!!)
1) I've only listed 3 tags out of the nominated ones, but I'd be up for any/all characters you might want to add! As for ships, Zelda/Link is obviously one I like, but I'm up for any other ships as well (het, m/m, f/f, polyships, etc.). For this fandom, a big enjoyment factor is how much nostalgia the franchise garners without feeling watered-down to something easier to swallow. With that in mind, I don't mind mature themes, but would prefer the rating to go up to at most M, to more suitably match the feel of the canon material.
2) I've only cleared Vah Ruta (Mipha) despite spending 130+ hrs in the game (my attention span is tiny), but I've picked up most things about BotW through cultural osmosis and game mechanic research. You can go ahead and assume I know most things from the main story, but not including Champion's Ballad DLC. If you think DLC info is necessary to incorporate into your fic, please go ahead and include though! I'll get into it eventually!
